Fulton County – Sunday, January 27, 2008 at approximately 10:42 p.m., Indiana State Trooper Daniel Barrett, 25, of Logansport, IN, was killed in a single vehicle crash on U.S. 31 south of State Road 110. Trooper Barrett was on duty at the time of the crash.
Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Earl McCullough revealed Trooper Barrett was traveling northbound on U.S. 31 when for an unknown reason his fully marked state police Crown Victoria traveled off the east side of the road striking a tree with the driver’s side door. Trooper Barrett was pronounced dead at the scene from massive trauma to his body.
Trooper Barrett was a 2002 graduate of Logansport High School. He attended criminal justice courses at Indiana University and Ivy Tech. Prior to joining the Indiana State Police, Barrett worked as a correctional officer for the state of Indiana. Barrett was assigned to patrol primarily in Fulton County.
Trooper Barrett was a member of the 67th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy which graduated July 6, 2007. He is the 43rd Indiana State Police Officer to die in the line of duty.
He is survived by his parents Vincent and Sarah of Logansport, two brothers, and a sister. This is an ongoing investigation.
The Indiana State Police were assisted at the crash scene by the Rochester Police Department, Kewanna Police Department, Akron Police Department, Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, Fulton County EMS, Rochester Fire Department, Fulton County Coroners Office, and Indiana Department of Transportation.
